<p>Mom&#8217;s everywhere listen up!  Have you been reading lately in the paper about &#8212; shootings &#8212; gangs &#8212; drugs &#8212; in possibly your very own neighbourhood?  Doesn`t matter &#8212; your not off the hook.   Do you think these bad guys care &#8212; that you have good kids and &#8212; live in a nice neighbourhood.  Think again &#8212; they don&#8217;t care!!</p>
<p>Mom&#8217;s take out the radar &#8212; you will &#8212; now learn to become a SUPER-HEROE MOM by using MOM POWER!</p>
<p>Mom Power is this:</p>
<p> communicate always in a loving way &#8212; showing lots of affection &#8212; to your children from the moment of conception - this will  help build good self esteem always talk at the dinner table &#8212; makes a good reason to have a sit down dinner together  any sign of trouble &#8212; even the hint of a problem &#8212; get the sonar radar out &#8212; be nosey &#8212; ask questions &#8212; try to get to the bottom of it swearing &#8212; seldom or never &#8212; make it a no-no in your everyday vocabulary teach your children from day-one to respect all people &#8212; young or old at bedtime try to read stories that have good morales or themes  always have your kids in after school programs &#8212; don`t leave them at home alone &#8212; or at the very least &#8212; have a neighbour you trust check-up on them encourage your kids to have their playmates come to your home &#8212; get to know who the good kids are &#8212; the ones you prefer they play with &#8212; start early always have the computer in the common area &#8212; not in a bedroom put parental controls on the computer and the television be with your child when they are buying computer games &#8212; know what their watching &#8212; the less violence the better &#8212; none at all is even better listen to your child &#8212; not just talk  make your child know that he or she is the most important person in your life don`t allow your children to witness any abuse if your hooked up with an abusive partner for the kids sake &#8212; get counselling everyday hug and tell your child or children you love them talk about bullying &#8212; tell them about Kids Help Phone talk about gangs &#8212; how bad they are watch for signs of your child being in a gang &#8212; have they become distant &#8211; are they trying to hide tatoos with gang signs &#8211; any stealing &#8212; lying  &#8212; oh, oh &#8212; you`ve just lost all of your Mom Power if this is happening &#8212; go get help fast &#8212; talk to someone you trust &#8211; a counsellor &#8212; a brother or sister &#8212; a good friend &#8212; a trusted partner if your neighbourhood is a problem &#8212; start a Mom Power Self Help Group ask the school if the local police can give talks about gangs, guns, and drugs always look your child straight in the eye &#8212; watch for signs of drugs &#8212; red eyes or dopey &#8212; if yes &#8212; get him or her into therapy fast &#8212; your Mom Power is being stomped all over never ever be abusive towards your child or children set curfews for young adults who are allowed to stay out late take away privledges in a mature adult manner when rules are broken always keep your  lines of communication open homework &#8212; always check its done &#8212; give praise for a job well done marks &#8212; are they doing well in school goals &#8212; what are their goals &#8212; what are they doing to work towards them keep the kids busy with activities &#8212; hockey, bike riding, nature hiking keep the kids too busy to get into trouble make sure they know about good touch &#8211; bad touch teach your child street proofing have a games night &#8212; play monopoly or scrabble or charades volunteer at the Daily Food Bread-Bank with the kids take them with you on any volunteer activities  teach your children good old fashioned manners above all else &#8212; love your children with all your heart and soul
<p>No one ever said being a Mom would be easy, it`s not.  Just remember to love yourself too!  Go get a pedicure, a massage, or a night out with the girls.  After all  you deserve it &#8212; YOUR NOW OFFICIALLY A SUPER-HEROE MOM!</p>
